How the Root Chakra influences your life
Reiki is an effective way to improve the flow of energy through the chakras, helping to create a balanced and aligned energy system that works properly and healthily. In this blog post we are going to take a closer look at the Root Chakra and its effect of the energy system.
The Root Chakra
The root chakra is the first of the seven main chakras. In ancient Sanskrit it is called Muladhara which means ‘root’. This chakra is the foundation for all the other chakras and therefore it needs to be strong and stable to support our energy system; just like a tree needs strong roots so that it can withstand the forces of nature. If we are to grow spiritually we too need strong roots. Having a balanced root chakra, allows for the opening of the chakras above, which in turn helps us tune into our higher self.
What is a balanced root chakra like?
When this chakra is in balance and spinning beautifully we feel good, life feels good. We feel that we can face the challenges life throws at us and have a belief that Mother Nature will provide for our needs; there is plenty to go around. You may find that you are great at managing your finances, putting food on the table and pay your bills when they fall due. That’s not to say a person with a balanced root chakra necessarily has a high paying job, but what they have, they manage well and are resourceful.
With a balanced root chakra a person may take great pleasure from walking in nature, gardening and outdoor pursuits. You may have strong family values and be close to your parents, siblings and children. You find it instinctive to work hard, provide for your family and build strong bonds with people you can trust and rely on. This chakra is linked to early childhood and therefore if you experienced a happy upbringing in a stable environment, with loving, caring parents, you are more likely to have a balanced first chakra. However, problems in adult life can also impede the flow of energy through this chakra for example the loss of a family member, financial troubles, illness or a challenging house move.
What happens if the chakra becomes imbalanced?
If your root chakra is imbalanced you may suffer with anxiety, stress and fears. In turn, these issues may develop into physical issues with the colon, bladder and lower back, leg or feet pain.
Does life way heavy on your shoulders? Do you feel exhausted by daily chores? Overwhelmed? These are all indicators of a weak or damaged root chakra. In contrast, a root chakra that is too strong and over-developed may leave you feeling unbendable and stuck in your ways. You may feel most of the time that you have life under full control, but if something out of the ordinary happens, an unexpected event, you are thrown into turmoil.
How can a blocked root chakra be healed?
The good news is, there are things you can do, to help balance your root chakra. You can engage in activities that help to ground you, like exercise, walking in nature and gardening; basically just get moving!
It’s so easy in today’s society to spend hours commuting, sitting in front of computers, TVs and mobile phones. These activities are not good for the base chakra. Start making changes today. Go for a walk, take the stairs or walk to the local shops instead of taking the car. Small steps will make a difference and you just might get the bug to exercise more.
You could do practical things like getting your finances in shape and taking care of where you live. If your home is organised and not in a mess, your mind feels calmer too. You are not wasting time trying to find lost items like keys, instead you create a calm and relaxed environment. If you create a calm, safe, home environment you will probably find you sleep better too.
Guided meditations are also a very good way of helping to balance chakras. This link is to a root chakra guided mediation lasting 12 minutes Guided Root Chakra Meditation .
Listening to chakra music in the background while working, sleeping etc. is also a very calming experience. The frequencies in the music resonate with the root chakra. The link Root Chakra Healing Music sound track promotes the healing of the root chakra, thereby helping to remove the blocks, boost energy and positivity.
Colours and crystals can help bring a chakra into balance. The root chakra’s colour is red. Colour psychologists say the vibration of this colour is very energising. Try wearing something red; if red is not your favourite colour for outer garments, try wearing red underwear or red socks.
Gemstones for the first chakra include garnet, red jasper, black tourmaline, and blood-stone. You can place the gemstone on the area of the chakra while lying down to help open and align it. During a Reiki session I often use crystals to help balance chakras. I also find that wearing crystal bracelets helps. Depending on how I am feeling influences which bracelet I choose. This link will take you directly to a choice of beautiful bracelets Crystal Bracelets .
Feed your base chakra with red foods and set the intention to nourish your root chakra. There are so many red foods to choose from like tomatoes, peppers and red skinned potatoes. Personally I like to fill my breakfast bowl with red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries and pomegranate.
